Lee County Medical Society Honors Four Physicians for their Dedication to Medicine
Fort Myers, FL – January 18, 2013 --- The Lee County Medical Society has honored four Lee County Physicians for their outstanding contributions to medicine at the Third Annual Medical Service Awards. The ceremony was held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Royal Palm Yacht Club.
K. C. Deva Caanthan, M.D. was presented with The Award for Citizenship & Community Service for outstanding leadership and public service above and beyond the call of duty as a practicing physician. This includes service within the local community and abroad
William Liu, M.D. was presented with The Scientific Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding work in the areas of scientific medical research. This includes both basic science and clinical research.
Aaron A. Wohl, M.D. received the Leadership & Professionalism Award. This award underscores the Lee County Medical Society’s continuing dedication to the principles of medical ethics and the highest standards of medical practice. Dr. Liu has remained active in organized medicine, is dedicated to the principles of medical ethics and dedicated to the highest standards of medical practice; he has made an outstanding contribution through active service in medical ethics activities.
James H. Fuller, M.D. received the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors a dedicated physician that has contributed substantially to the goals and ideals of the medical profession. That has contribution that have been sustained and substantial over a significant term of service in the respective County.
Michelle Waddle, BS, RNC-NIC was presented with The Non-Physician Award of Appreciation for exemplary and a lasting contribution to the medical profession as a (non-physician) member of the medical profession.
Robert A. Simpson, CEO, LeeSar was presented with The Distinguished Layperson’s Service Award. This award shall be made to an individual who has contributed to the achievement of the ideals of medicine through the advancement of medicine, medical science, medical research, medical education or medical care. This award includes those who support the medical profession through the delivery of medicine or medical research/education but are not themselves physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants or other medical staff.
Sandra Wharton, System Director, Medical Staff Sservices, LMHS, retires after 40 years of service to Lee Memorial.

Dr. Marvin Porter, Dr. Seth Schurman, and Dr. David Gaar receive their Life Member Awards at the January 18, 2013 Awards Ceremony after 35 years of membership in the Lee County Medical Society.
